Queen Bees for 2008 from Australia and Chile

Posted by beekeepers on December 17, 2007

Peter Mewett, Ontario, is taking orders now for Carniolan and Italian queens to be imported in April and May 2008 — here are the details that he has circulated. For further information, contact Peter at the address and phone numbers given below:

This year, I will be importing queens from both Australia and Chile. My Australian suppliers, Taylor and Dewar, will have both Italian and Carniolan stock available.

My supplier from Chile is Agrovivo, a 650 million dollar agriculture/food company. They have been in the honey business for over 50 years. This year they are exporting only Carniolan stock of which 2200 is available to me. This stock is imported annually from Austria and performance tested during the first year. Selection is made for breeders for the second year and it is the daughters of these breeders that will be available to us. These queens can be available in battery boxes of 100 if you wish. Colonies have been overwintered in the mountains in Chile which should attest favorably to their ability to winter in our climate.

Further Ordering and Arrival Information:

It may be possible to order one week earlier or one week later than scheduled dates providing I have a minimum combined order of 400. If orders fall short for a particular arrival date, you will be notified so that alternative shipping arrangements can be made. When requesting orders please specify breed, arrival date(s), and method of pick up or delivery. Once you determine what you want, it is best to order without delay. That way, I can update my suppliers every 10 days to aid in their preparation. This also helps to insure you get your order. Confirmation of final arrival times will be communicated to you. The deadline for orders is Sunday, March 9th. Since Chilean queens are limited, the sooner you order, the better the chance of receiving your request.

Inspections and Rerouting:

Once the queens arrive at Pearson in Toronto, they will undergo CFIA inspection. They will also be watered and repackaged (except battery boxes) for shipment to you at your cost. I will arrange transport by air cargo to the nearest major centre for you or courier according to your instructions. Customers may also pick up at my home at 1451 Baptist Church Rd, Stirling.

TERMS:

I believe in the honesty and integrity of beekeepers. Consequently, once an order is placed , it signifies a commitment to complete the purchase. Some suppliers require a significant deposit on my part prior to receiving a shipment. Since they expect prompt payment from me, I would appreciate receiving full payment on pick up or delivery. New customers are requested to pay a 25% deposit when ordering.
