This hive was a problem all last season, with repeating queen failures. By the time we wrapped hives for the winter, it was strong enough not to have to be combined with another colony, but we really weren’t counting on it coming through alive to spring. Good thing, as obviously this colony dwindled and the cluster was too small to retain enough heat for the bees to move around to get the stored honey. These bees had plenty of stores, but they starved just because they couldn’t reach the food.
